The leading provider of telecommunications services “A1 Bulgaria” and the Bulgarian investment group in the field of clean energy “Renalfa” signed a Private long-term contract for the supply of renewable energy (Private PPA) based on photovoltaic technology. The contract is for the supply of 20,000 MWh of clean electricity per year for a period of 10 years.

In addition to supplying electricity, Renalfa, through its subsidiary Toki Power, will provide A1 with Sleeving services for the green energy profile in the customer’s required user schedule. This is the first deal of its kind for the Bulgarian market. The energy will be generated by a solar park with an installed capacity of 33 MW in southern Bulgaria, part of Renalfa’s portfolio.

“Climate change is arguably the biggest challenge of the 21st century. And while digital technologies can support sustainable development, the unprecedented growth of data traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the industry to increase electricity consumption to unprecedented levels. As part of the A1 Telekom Austria Group, we are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030. This will be achieved by reducing our carbon footprint and gradually moving to renewable electricity. sources. The contract for long-term supply of solar energy is a significant step for A1 Bulgaria on our path to transition to clean energy. As a leading communication operator, we accept that it is our duty to set an example with our experience to lead the green and digital transformation, “said Alexander Dimitrov, Chairman of the Board and CEO of A1 Bulgaria.

“Corporate contracts for long-term electricity supply are the backbone of the energy transition and we are very happy to announce the first such contract with the transformation of the production schedule of renewable energy producers to customer needs,” said Yuri Katanov, CEO of Renalfa. “We are pleased to partner with an industry leader such as A1 Bulgaria. I would like to congratulate the company and its management for promoting such an innovative business model. Together we have managed to solve one of the most difficult tasks for greater integration of RES producers into the market. ”

“Corporate energy supply contracts give companies a competitive advantage, guaranteeing them a stable price of electricity for years to come compared to volatile energy markets. At the same time, this energy is clean and of proven origin from RES, which significantly improves the carbon footprint of companies, improves the quality of the environment and increases their ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) rating, “he added.
